As a supervisor or a manager, it is necessary to know what are the importance of evaluation. It is useful to employees as well as organization. Evaluation is a process of collecting data and analyzing or arranging it in a systematic way, so that the resulting information can be used as a determining factor whether an organization or a program is efficient in carrying out the planned activities, functions and how it is meeting the expectations and achieving its stated goals.

Evaluation is used as a tool for learning and management to improve the effectiveness of an organization.

Most people believe that evaluation is about taking a look at the outcomes at the end of a program to show to an investor whether it worked or failed. If the program did not match up to the expectations or made no difference, then those people do not regard evaluation much as they feel that they are getting very little information out of it.

Organizational assessment analyzes and measures the coherence between and the stated objectives and results, and between general objectives and specified objectives of the programs, projects of an organization. Evaluation plays an important role in improving the management, administration in any organization. It helps in enhancing the efficiency of functions and operations of a program.

Reputed organizations can effectively demonstrate the accomplishment of results. Results are obtained from good managerial decisions. Making right decisions depend on good source of information. Useful information requires gathering data and analyzing it. All these elements are critical for the process of evaluation.

Conducting internal evaluations about their programs to get information will help the managers to make sound decisions about the enforcement of those programs. It is advisable to conduct the internal evaluation on a regular basis and be applied carefully by the managers of the organization at every level in every area of the program. All the participants of the program including the supervisors, managers, staff and other stakeholders should be actively engaged in the evaluation process. Collaboration by different members of the organization helps in building the commitment and using the results in making critical program decisions and improvements.

Most often internal evaluations are conducted in a company by and for program supervisors and staff. It is also necessary to conduct larger-scale, external evaluations on a periodic basis by the individuals from outside the process or organization. These external evaluations are usually required for the purpose of financing or to review the long-term impact of the program, by examining the changes in demographic factors such as poverty level or completion rate.

When program evaluation is conducted in an appropriate manner on a regular basis, it can have a great impact on the management and effectiveness of the programs in the organization. To achieve this, it requires knowledge to differentiate between evaluation and monitoring, making assessment as an inherent component of planning activities in a program and implementation, and acquiring different types of information required by the managers at different organizational levels.
