Medical Segmentation Evaluation

The medical segmentation evaluation is a method which deals with medical image processing. This is where differences, no matter how small, of the anatomy are assessed. This is an important process where the image is segmented and referred to different regions. There are various measures taken on the segments selected depending on the intensity and location. It is important to use multidimensional methods to analyze. There are various dynamic ways through which such evaluations take place.

The Principal component analysis is one of the more popular ways of dealing with this evaluation. These deals with getting a simple graphical image and then segmentation methods are applied to the data that is collected such as an MRI of the brain or an RF of the body. This data helps in understanding the critical condition of the patient. The evaluation method is important also for the purpose of obtaining an accurate picture for better understanding and proper diagnosis of the patient.

Sample Medical Segmentation evaluation:

Medical Segmentation:  KNEE MRI

Patient: Mr. Jordan

History of Patient:

Symptoms of knee pain after 5 months of hitting the knee. Could be Cyst, meniscal tear or loose body

Technique: Image will be performed used Tesla Knee Coil. The sequence will have dual echo and spin echo images and also inversion recovery.

Image Details:

  • A small joint effusion which could be Baker cyst. Thickened MR evidence seen
  • The meniscus is normal but slight intensity in morphology. The cartilage is fine and the marrow edema has been located.
  • The lateral compartment shows slight tear in the meniscus and some cartilage irregularity.
  • The anterior ligament is fine but slight thickening seen.
  • Cyst is present under the facet cartilage and the lateral facet remains preserved.
  • The tendons are all intact.

  • The horizontal horn and meniscus are all surfaced inferiorly.
  • Diffuse thickening seen as sunchondral cyst.
